Fall Festivals in Arkansas

Fall is a great time in Arkansas.  Weather is perfect and the fall colors are lovely.  Here are some fun things to do in the fall.

The Arkansas State Fair

The Arkansas State Fair is a great way to celebrate fall in Arkansas.  The State Fair has great carnival foods, arts and craft shows, livestock, rides, special shows and even a rodeo.  With discounts, it is a reasonably priced way to have some family fun.  During "lunch," you can even park and get in for free.  The State Fair is in mid-October.

Arkansas is a surprisingly good place to view fall colors.  Northwest Arkansas has some great scenery and even Little Rock has some spots for great foliage viewing.  Arkansas has a wide variety of tree species, so you often get mixes of vibrant reds, oranges and gold all in the same general area.  The colors start to mature in early October.

Halloween is a pretty big deal in Little Rock.  We have major events including Boo at the Zoo and lots of haunted houses.  Don't forget to visit a great pumpkin patch or corn maze before you head to trick-or-treat.

King Biscuit Blues Festival

The King Biscuit Blues Festival began in 1986 as a one-day musical tribute to the Blues roots of Helena and the man at those roots, Sonny Boy Williamson.  Today, it's a major celebration of Delta blues.  Visitors come from all over the world to see the performances.

Yellville Turkey Trot Festival

This festival is famous for tossing turkeys out of a crop duster, but that doesn't happen anymore (at least officially).   It's held on the second Friday and Saturday of October and the real reason is to celebrate wild turkeys and turkey hunting.  Like any great festival, it has crafts and great food.  This one has a turkey calling contest too.

Wiederkehr Village Weinfest

Celebrate Arkansas wine at this festival.  The festival celebrates with winery tours, grape stomps, arts and crafts, conga lines and sing-a-longs.  They do tram rides through the vineyards during the festival too.  It's usually the second Saturday in October.

Arkansas Rice Festival

Held in Weiner, AR, this festival celebrates Arkansas' rice heritage.  It's usually held the the second weekend in October.  They have rice threshing demonstrations and lawnmower races.  There's also lots of rice-related fun.  If you don't care for rice, other food vendors and arts and crafts are available.

War Eagle Mill Arts and Craft Fair

The fall fair and War Eagle Mill is one of the largest craft fairs in Arkansas.  Vendors fill the parking lot, fields and the mill with their wares.  You'll find all kinds of handmade arts and crafts, like home decor, folk art, painting, pottery, glasswork, soaps, jewelry, clothing and furniture. It's usually the third weekend in October.
